Euro hits 7-month low after France's 'no' vote
Decision could make investors wary of European investments

PARIS - France’s resounding “no” vote to the EU constitution sent the euro currency to a seven-month low against the dollar Monday, but analysts said it could be months before investors get the full measure of the emotionally charged vote and its likely fallout.
Stock markets took the constitution’s defeat in stride, and there were few signs of the economic cataclysm doomsayers had predicted would follow a referendum defeat for Europe’s latest integration blueprint.
“It’s business as usual in practical terms,” said Lorenzo Codogno, co-head of European economics at Bank of America in London.
Investors will nevertheless be watching closely for any “change in direction in terms of the European integration project,” Codogno said. “But it’s not the kind of reaction you expect within two days — it will take probably weeks or months to assess what are the implications of this vote from a political standpoint.”
The euro fell as far as $1.2466 in afternoon European trading, its lowest level since mid-October and more than a cent below the $1.2575 it bought in New York late Friday.... Link to full story.

//DUBLIN BLOG//

Check out http://www.gridskipper.com/travel/dublin/index.php. A Blog of information on Dublin.

Including a review of a bar we just might have to check out.

"If you’re in Dublin and looking for a respectable and traditional watering hole with a stellar reputation for “trad” – that is, traditional live Irish music – avoid the overpriced and over-developed Temple Bar nightlife area. Instead, head across the Liffey to The Cobblestones, slightly off the beaten track on Smithfield Market. Get there early, as it fills up. And for good reason, says one local reviewer:
The Cobblestones in Smithfield is now fast becoming a Mecca for music fans. Starting from Thursdays running through to Saturday, this venue rocks, stomps and leaves music fans agog with the incredible live shows put on by extraordinary musicians.
If you hadn’t heard, even the non-geriatric Irish take their fiddling and boudrán-banging very seriously, which means it’s an all (drinking) ages deal. Meanwhile, The Cobblestons’ trad cred is further sealed by the fact that it doesn’t have a website. Finally, if you don’t know what a boudrán is, it’s the little drum in the pic above. According to wikipedia, there are numerous boudrán-playing styles, the most common being the “Kerry style, which uses a two-headed tipper,” which sounds like some sort of a Republican hit-job fantasy, except even more fun.

// CROKE PARK 3 SOLD OUT //

Tickets for U2's June 27 gig at Croke Park went on sale on Saturday morning and were sold out within a few hours. Most tickets were allocated to outlets throughout Ireland, a smaller number were available via Ticketmaster.

Just as well. We'll be on our way back to the states with fond memories of U2 swimming in our head.

Just my luck. I was playing around on Ticketmaster at 11:20 pm on 5/9/05 and could have bought a set of G.A. tickets for the show on 5/10/05.
